A week long visit to the islands, a family visit rather than a full on birding trip.
30th September
Arrived on schedule on the plane from Lands End and settled into our cottage in Old Town. After shopping and other necessary tasks there was time for a visit to the hide at Lower Moor. Nothing much evident in windy and wet conditions but this juvenile Grey Heron performed well.

A bright sunny day, but very windy. Walked from Old Town to Porth Hellick via Giant's Castle, then through Holy Vale and back to Old Town. Not much to photograph on the walk but this Kestrel was hovering quite close by on the cliff path.

A Jack Snipe was showing at Sussex Hide on Porth Hellick but was too distant for photography. A Common Snipe was showing close to the hide.

At the end of the day went to Lower Moors, Water Rails were calling but not showing. The only photo opportunity was this Common Moorhen.

Another bright and sunny day, walked from Old Town to Porth Hellick and then round the coast to Pelistry and back via Newford Duck Pond. Spent some time looking for a Wryneck in the Porth Wreck Quarry but was unsuccesful.
At Porth Hellick a Water Rail put on a good show in the open.

Another glorious sunny day, spent the day on St Agnes. During a walk around the coast had good views of Rock Pipit, the only migrants evident were a few Wheatears and a lot of Meadow Pipits.

After a pleasant lunch at the Turk's Head managed to catch up with the elusive Wryneck and photograph Shags while waiting for the boat back.

4th October
Overcast and very windy. Walked the coastal path from Old Town to Penninis and down to Hugh Town. Very little to photograph although there was a good roost of gulls and terns in Porthcressa.
Stopped for a coffee at Dibble and Grub, sat outside and lost the froth off my Cappucino in the wind.
October 5th
Overcast most of the day. Spent time in Carreg Dhu gardens looking for Firecrest then walked up to Porth Hellick where the only photographable bird was a Greenshank.
